I purchased this book ahead of the 2020 CASE Hybrid Spring Conference where the author was the Keynote speaker for 1 and 1/2 days. Simply put, the author has learned the lessons of effective engagement and de-escalation of students who have experienced trauma in one form or another. The book offers his insight and unique, positive-based, practices on how to improve overall school climate and how to connect to students who may often see the entire adult population as harmful to them due to their life experiences to that point. The material is engaging, thought-provoking, unassuming, and the author truly one of the "good guys" in K-12 education right now. If you are a school admin and want to change how your own staff and parent community both view and treat students with mental health challenges, I suggest you bring this approach to your district!
